The
Monticello Electric Plant Board is a public power municipal
utility with thirteen employees who serve approximately 3400
customers in and around the city of Monticello, Kentucky.
We have one delivery point with a 40 megawatt capacity. Currently,
our peak is around 25 megawatts. Monticello's first electric
system was installed in 1905 and was operated privately until
1954, when it was acquired by the Electric Plant Board through
the efforts of the City of Monticello. The late Mayor R.G.
Breeding, during his term in office, 1952 to 1959, worked
very hard originating plans for Monticello to receive power
from the Tennessee Valley Authority, a goal which was accomplished
with the signing of the contract on September 22, 1960. In
April of 1999 the Monticello Electric Plant Board, in response
to customer requests, began providing dial-up Internet service
to the residents of Monticello and Wayne County.
